Witch Doctor....

I want it.
Terrel made it and I want it.
Do you think I can put it an installment plan?
Or should I wait for a mask?
So last night I walked in to the studio and found out witch doctor had sold.  I was moping around all night just hoping that Terrel could make another one just like it.  Or had one like it.  Then Terrel showed up with another masterpiece and we talked about witch doctor.  He said he had another 40-50 pieces in his apartment.  I was hoping that one of them would fill the void of witch doctor.  Then I said that I just loved how it sat in the window....Kate said WINDOW!   I was calling this piece witch doctor but the real name is spirit God.  And it was still there.  She ran and got it and I was smiling from ear to ear.  I grabbed it with one hand and I pulled out my checkbook with the other hand.  And brought it home.
P.S.  Last night was payday.

Sunday with T!M

So I got a call letting me know that Tim Holtz (the leader in scrapbooking) had an opening in his Sunday class in Dallas.  A few wks. ago I tried to get a spot and was unsuccessful EVEN after five hours of not-stop calling.  The below photo is what I am suppose to make along with text from his blog.
"an all-day workshop called "artful curio" where student will be immersed in vintage findings, ephemera, and all sorts of cool treasures as well collage and assemble a dimensional curio box. techniques for collage, working with tissue tapes, and of course distress inks are included - this one will have everyone talking..."

Mabel

A Portrait of Mabel by Jana Singleton Martin on Aug. 23, 2010
The "real Mabel" is one of my students.  I first noticed her name is spelled just like my paternal grandmother.  Also, I noticed this on my grandmother Mabel's 100th birthday---so I know it was a relationship meant to be.  Student Mabel is a strong, intelligent, and emotional young lady with an amazing smile.  I am privileged to know her and her twin brother.

Bernardo Cantu

I went to an art lecture today.  His work infuses barrio materials with a post-apocolyptical edge.  He just showed his work at his MFA show.  He will teach art in the area.

Philosophy Rock

I didn't think I was going to get philosophy buying flagstone but what a deep thought.  Adrian, Corey, John and I all took Dr. Trainer's philosophy class at SWT.  I was the only one that got a "D" but I took it and ran and never looked back.

Flagstone

We got up early and went to buy flagstone.  The car was weighed before and after we loaded the rock.  Campy loved the outing and now we have flagstones on our path in the backyard. Also, we had friends over for dinner.  John is an excellent cook.

Art with Jana--Episode One

Art with Jana 1
I volunteered at the homeless shelter and taught a very basic art class.  I taught to approx. 14 residents that were mostly male.  I was nervous but got there early and got my supplies put out.  Then the residents started showing up and each resident made a journal.  See the above.  I go back on Sept. 8th for more fun.

New Grill

So we have new deck and John has the GRILL OF HIS DREAMS and

I love these type of stores....

This is a vendor in an antique store.  I find this type of display so great....I found this pink dress enchanting.  I am sure it was a prom dress in 1985.

Margaret Peterson Haddix...

I can't wait for the third book in her series to come out this month.  I read most of her books this summer.  This is a review of her newest book...Sabotaged

After helping Chip and Alex survive 15th century London, Jonah and Katherine are summoned to help another missing child, Andrea, face her fate. Andrea is really Virginia Dare, from the Lost Colony of Roanoke. Jonah and Katherine are confident in their ability to help Andrea fix history, but when their journey goes dangerously awry, they realize that they may be in over their head. They've landed in the wrong time period. Andrea doesn't seem that interested in leaving the past. And even worse, it appears that someone has deliberately sabotaged their mission...
